A mama cat took a rescue a long time to be trapped. Although she still watches new faces from a hiding spot, she now peeks out and comes over to say hello the moment she hears a voice she has come to love.

Her rescue began with a stranger who noticed a mother cat and her babies in need of help. "A Good Samaritan reached out to the rescue by email, asking for help bringing the little family to safety," Orphan Kitten Project shared with LoveMeow. The team answered without hesitation, carefully trapping Cafecita and all three of her kittens and bringing each of them into care.
Safe indoors at last, Cafecita was given the time and space she needed to settle in, and the people caring for her soon discovered what a gentle soul she is. Orphan Kitten Projct operates out of Davis, CA.
A soft, muted patchwork of gray, cream, and white, she is as sweet-natured as she looks, though she likes to take things slowly with new people. Around the rescue, she also goes by Rocky.

At first, Cafecita prefers to watch from a cozy hiding spot, quietly taking the measure of everyone around her before she commits to anything.
Her foster found the shortcut to her heart quickly enough. "A few treats and a little patience are the quickest way to her heart," Orphan Kitten Project said, and slowly but surely, this shy girl begins to open up.

More than anything, Cafecita loves good company. She is not one to demand attention, but she is endlessly happy being near to her foster.
Whether her person is studying, working from home, or unwinding on the couch at the end of a long day, she will settle in at their side and keep them company through all of it.

One of her habits melts everyone who sees it. The moment she hears a familiar voice, she peeks her little head out from her hiding place and makes her way over to say a sweet hello.
She has a charming way of greeting the people she loves, too, gently brushing her tail against them as if to say she is glad they are near.

Cafecita has found the balance between affection and independence. "She'll let you know when she's had enough attention by wandering off," Orphan Kitten Project said.
There is never any need to worry when she does. Before long she is back at her person's side, ready for more closeness on her own gentle terms.

Like many cats who spent their early days unsure of the world, Cafecita can still be startled now and then. A door opening suddenly, or a new face in the room, might send her scurrying for cover.
In the comfort of her foster home, though, she has grown wonderfully at ease with the ordinary sounds of a household, unbothered by the hum of the television or a little music in the background.

Every day, with steady kindness and no pressure at all, her foster shows Cafecita that she is safe, and each new bit of confidence she gains is a small, quiet victory.
What her foster has learned along the way is that Cafecita blooms when no one rushes her. She has come the furthest with patient people who let her set the pace and decide for herself when to close the distance.

Not long ago, Cafecita was a stray mother keeping three kittens safe with nowhere of her own to go. Today she is a gentle companion who peeks out for the voices she knows, brushes her tail against her favorite people, and grows a little braver with every quiet day.
