Kitten Too Ill for Anyone to Be Sure About Decided the Answer Was Yes and Now Plays Like She Owns the Place

No one was sure a tiny gray kitten would make it. She decided the answer was yes, and now she plays like the whole foster home already belongs to her.

Last week, a volunteer with Tails High in Alexandria, VA arrived at a local shelter just before closing time. She was there for a mother cat and her litter, a rescue already planned and already full.

Shelter staff asked if she could take one more. A single kitten, alone, running out of time, with no litter and no plan in place for her at all. Most people are taught not to pick up hitchhikers.

That rule has never applied to kittens, and Casey with Cap City Cats was not about to start now. At just five weeks old, Soliloquy was less than half the size she should have been, thin and covered in wounds that needed immediate attention.

She landed in the care of Casey, a foster known around Tails High for taking on the hardest neonatal cases, the kittens other people might not know how to save.

It is hard to know exactly what a kitten that small and that hurt has been through before someone finally stops for her. Whatever it was, Soliloquy did not look like she planned on losing.

Within days, she was already gaining weight, filling out in ways that felt impossible just a week earlier. Somewhere in that first stretch of care, tucked between feedings and naps, she figured out what her back legs were for.

She has not stopped moving since, and she does not seem interested in starting.

"She approaches every play session with the energy of someone who believes she personally invented running, jumping, and sneak attacks," Casey shared with LoveMeow.

Even the resident cats have taken notice. Clara Bow, another cat in the household, has taken to keeping watch from just outside the incubator, waiting patiently for her turn to deliver an unlimited supply of kisses to the newest and loudest member of the family.

The energy she brings to every corner of the foster room makes it easy to forget she is still in the middle of a recovery.

Soliloquy is still being treated for infections in both front paws, and the team is watching one toe closely while they wait on more answers.

"We remain concerned about serious infections affecting both front paws, including significant swelling in one toe," Casey shared.

Even so, none of it has slowed her down for long. A kitten who once could not stand on her own back legs now treats every square inch of the foster room as if it were hers.

Between wrestling matches, there is still a lot of sleep to catch up on. Soliloquy does everything at full volume, including rest, and when she finally goes down, she goes down completely, on her back, paws in the air, utterly unbothered by the world.

Casey plans to have her spayed once she is old enough and fully recovered, one more piece of a much longer road back to full health.

She once weighed half as much as a newborn kitten should have. Now she wrestles kittens twice her size, keeps a devoted admirer stationed outside her incubator, and refuses to lose.
